Sophie Kwasny

Head of the Data Protection Unit of the Council of Europe
She is responsible for policy on data protection and privacy, such as the long awaited modernisation of Convention 108, for cooperation activities with beneficiary countries and for the global expansion of Convention 108+.

She is a graduate of the Strasbourg Law University and has been working for the Council of Europe for over 20 years on a variety of topics such as prisons’ reforms, medical insurance, independence of the judiciary and nationality law. She started working in the field of data protection in 2011, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Convention 108.
